In Ayurveda, food is medicine and the key to overall wellness is through healthy digestion, as well as the way that we think, feel and move in the world.
Whole, seasonal foods, fresh produce, herbs, spices, teas and tonics bring nourishment, inner-balance, vitality, sustained energy, and natural, healthy weight-management. Our relationship with food matters. This can include the environment our meals are prepared in, the time of day meals are enjoyed, our sense (or lack) of gratitude and mindful eating, how we store our food, avoiding wrong food combinations, and more. All of this affects the prana, or life-force, of what we are putting into our bodies, and how well our digestion can function.
Mindfulness, peace and balance result in happiness, contentment and inner stability. When the mind is at ease, the body follows. Your Ayurvedic consultation can include guidance and support with learning how to bring increased awareness into your everyday life. Meditation, breathing exercises (such as the ancient practice of pranayama), and body awareness exercises all allow deeper access to Divine Stillness that is at the core of everything. The time that we dedicate to meditation radiates tenfold pools of tranquility and harmony into our minds, bodies and Spirit. Increasing our felt-sense awareness of our bodies facilitates in releasing stress, anxiety and even deep-rooted traumas from our lives. Our natural state of wellness and joy comes to the forefront of each moment.
Just as there is not one diet that suits all, in Ayurveda there is no single exercise regimen that is best for everyone. Each body and mind is in a unique state of health or dis-ease. Ayurveda can offer guidance on the types of exercise and movement that are most suited for your body type and current state of health, with flexibility to adjust and change. This can include the optimum time of day for your work-out, the frequency, intensity and duration that will be most effective for you, ways to avoid overstrain, burnout, or lack of motivation.
Ayurveda is not just about modalities such as yoga and pilates, rather what it is that works for You. All can be further explored in your personal consultation.
Establishing daily and nighttime routines (dinacharya) is a core part of Ayurveda. Additionally, when the seasons change, so do our health needs, and seasonal routines (ritucharya) support our health.
Plus, when the seasons of our own Life transform (eg. in the moving from childhood towards adolescence, middle to older age, stages of menopause, etc...), the needs of our emotions, body, mind and Spirit also transform.
Ayurveda Practitioners create guidelines for routines that will support, nourish - and help flourish - your unique Self. In addition to foods, herbs, teas and tonics, this may include ancient practices such as self-oil massage (abyangha), calming the mind through meditation and mantras, invigorating the body and senses with exercise routines and time in nature, releasing emotional stress through marma point activation, journaling, body awareness and energy healing.
Your dosha, or unique body-mind constitution - consists of a combination of nature's elements - earth, fire, water, air and space. Your current state of health (or dis-ease) determines the foods and lifestyle routines that will bring the greatest wellness, balance and stable happiness forward.
In Ayurveda, the three primary doshas are Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water) and Kapha (earth and water). Our bodies are a combination of all three doshas, though there is usually one, or maybe two, that are prevalent. Ayurveda believes that when the doshas are balanced, disease is prevented and health prevails. The doshas are bought into balance through the dietary and lifestyle choices and actions we take.
When we choose to embrace our own journey of Self-discovery, we are surrounded by an abundance of light and support (seen or unseen). It is every Soul's destiny to evolve and return back to it's natural state of Oneness, health and peace.
You will also be fully supported on your Ayurveda journey here. After your initial consultation, you will receive 3 weeks of email or 'chat messaging' support to help you navigate through your protocol and begin to implement positive changes. From there, follow-up sessions are encouraged (and never pushed). Checking in with a follow-up appointment 1-2 months after your initial appointment is a great way to continue to strengthen and ground your holistic and healing goals, review your protocol and expand in your wellness.
At Ayurveda Sanctuary, we will work together to cultivate balance, wellness and inner harmony in the areas of your life where you are seeking change, guidance and support. This may include desires for better health, nutrition, daily and seasonal lifestyle routines, self and body awareness, and spiritual wellness. We can look at creative, intuitive and practical steps for you to implement these changes.
We will discuss any current and past health challenges you may be facing, and make a plan of how best to navigate through these with ease . We can explore any generational and ancestral patterns that the cells of your body may be holding, which could be inhibiting your current state of wellness, and bring any issues or patterns into the therapeutic light for transformation.
There is space and potential to dive deeper, if you wish...
In addition to your Ayurveda consultation, you may wish to choose a path of emotional and spiritual cleansing through energy-healing and body-awareness meditations. From here, you may uncover your dharma, or 'life-purpose', and any karmic life-lessons that you are here to embody or transcend.
It is my joy and honor to support you on your journey of wellness.
